Every session I have the opportunity to photograph tells a story. A story that is always different from the last. This one in particular takes places with the sweetest couple, Jack and Emily on the Blue Ridge Parkway on a cold rainy afternoon in late January. Ps. I’m not joking when I say COLD, but both Emily and Jack were 100% all in for it all!
The Blue Ridge Parkway is more than just a scenic drive, it offers some of the most stunning views in both North Carolina and Virginia. This beautiful relaxing drive is a little over 450 miles, if you commit to driving the whole thing, BRAVO! There is both vast animal and plant life along this route and definitely something I would consider adding to you must do list if you’re or have hope of visiting the East Coast.
It’s time and time again I have clients who will back out of a shoot or reschedule due to the weather. I get it, you have this idea in your head of a perfect golden hour moment, dream sunrise, whatever it may be. BUT, you guys, we can’t control the weather! You never know if you will love it unless you try!
In the recent months rainy sessions have started to hold a very special place in my heart. I think the lighting that a gloomy, “gross” day provides us, looks and feels a little bit more romantic. Rainy days have the power of becoming some of the most magical ones to date. The clouds slowing lifting in the distance, I mean AHHH, I lose my mind anytime I have the chance to witness that! Can you picture yourself standing on your favorite summit and behind you, you have a ocean of clouds. Close your eyes and just imagine it! Beautiful, RIGHT? What about a sea of clouds as the sun goes down right as the clouds begin to break! Can I get all the heart eyed emojis? It’s moments like that, when you wont regret taken a chance on a rainy photoshoot!
Yes, these occasions are not guaranteed for every rainy moment. For the ones were the rain continues to fall and the clouds are so dense you can barely see 5 feet in front of you, those can be just as magical! And this specific couples session was just that!
We started off playing in a open field right off the parkway, then ran around in the road, because who doesn’t love that? Next, made our way deeper into the Blue ridge parkway and came up upon some old buildings, better known as the “Humpback Rocks Mountain Farm.” This place completely took us back to the late 1800’s. It was a pretty fun place to explore, have to say I really recommend it! Both of these guys were so much fun to photograph then entire afternoon was filled with a so many giggles! I loved every second of it!
All in all, it was a wonderful afternoon spent with Emily and Jack. So feel free to take a peek at some of my favorite moments from their shoot! If you find yourself wanting to run around the Blue Ridge Parkway, rain or shine contact me here!
