Shenandoah National Park is such a beautiful National park on the East Coast and it holds some of the most stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you’re an outdoor lover, looking for an adventure elopement experience, look no further! I have carefully put together a list of 5 hikes for a Shenandoah adventure elopement! Please bare in mind these are my own suggestions!
Length: 1.6 Miles Round trip
Elevation Gain: 672ft
Difficulty: Moderate
Starting off strong with, Hawksbill Summit. Hawksbill stands as the highest point in Shenandoah National park, 4,050ft above sea level. There are a few ways to go about summiting the highest point in SNP. However, today I am going to share my personal suggestion for those looking to elope at this location, because let’s be honest..How cool would it be to say to you elope at the highest point In Shenandoah National park?!
Hawksbill Summit Trail, 1.6 mile out and back with about 672 ft in elevation gain. Short easy and perfect for your early morning elopement or truly anytime of day.
Length: 3.4 miles roundtrip
Elevation Gain: 1,210ft
Difficulty: Hard
Secondly, if you are looking for a bit more of an adventure, I really recommend looking into Marys Rock. To this day this is hands down one of my all time favorites, the view of the Blue Ridge Mountains at this particular summit are INSANE!
Mary’s rock is a 3.4 mile round trip hike. As mentioned, a great choice for a couple who is looking for a bit more adventure and a tad more distance. The elevation gain for this route is 1,210ft. Please keep in mind there are a ton of different routes to make it to this summit, some are even shorter!
Length: 1.1 miles roundtrip
Elevation Gain: 180ft
Difficulty: Easy
One of the most popular accessed trails in Shenandoah National Park and for good reason, might I add! Blackrock Summit is a stunning boulder field right off of the Appalachian trail, truly one of the coolest things to experience. This hike is very short, 1.1 mile round trip and 180 ft in elevation gain! You really can’t go wrong with this hike and who doesn’t love a good boulder field?
Nevertheless, Blackrock Summit is a great choice for those who want to hike for their adventure elopements, BUT do not want to hike too far for an amazing view!
Length: 1.5 mile roundtrip
Elevation Gain: 321ft
Difficulty: Moderate
Another easy but yet incredible hike. A short distance from the parking lot, until you reach the summit of Stony Man. 1.5 mile round trip, with the adventure starting out on the Appalachian Trail! This hike is such a great choice for those who are looking for a sunrise elopement experience! No joke you guys, the sunrise here is so beautiful! I have personally never once been disappointed by a sunrise at Stony Man. If you are looking to add a bit more distance and the chance to deck away from the possibility of crowds, Little Stony Man is a good choice as well.
Length: 2.9 miles Roundtrip
Elevation Gain: 364ft
Difficulty: Easy/Moderate
Calf Mountain summit is really nothing to experience if I am being honest. Nonetheless, I wouldn’t count this hike out! Especially because of Little Calf Mountain Summit! The lower summit, better known as Little Calf, is a great pick! Lastly, and something important to note, this hike is listed as 2.9 miles BUT if you’re just heading to Little calf, the round trip is about 1.7 miles!
I really couldn’t help but add this as one of the hikes for a Shenandoah adventure elopement because, it has a massive open meadow with views of the mountains off in the distance. One of the coolest things about this hike is that there is a stunning wide open meadow at the begin of the trail as well! So much wide open space to play with!
Alright, there you go friends! My top five hike suggestions within the Shenandoah National Park boundaries for your upcoming adventure elopements!
