Sometimes the least expected sessions are the ones that turn out to be your ABSOLUTE favorite. This was that exact session for me! Check out why this moody winter session just hit home for me!
Daniel + Maribel’s Moody Winter Session
This session was a nerve racking one to say the least. Personally, I do my best for to keep an eye on the weather when leading up to a session. I don’t typically allow incoming weather to disrupt a session. Leading up to a a session I always tell my clients to EMBRACE the elements because you truly have no idea. Some of your best art can be made when you least expect it.
So lets dive in. On January 14, 2024, the Charlottesville, Virginia area was having a crazy windy day. I mean 20 mph winds, it was insane! Daniel said “we were in the middle of a cyclone”. He was not wrong. The wind picked up as the day went on, which made me nervous. In the middle of January, 30 degrees or so and the wind is making it easily 10 degrees colder..I was worried these guys were going to look at me like I was CRAZY. WELL, without even thinking twice both Maribel and Daniel hoped out of the car and were ready to go! Didn’t complain once! Guys, they were such troopers! Honestly a part of me was so excited about the wind, I could not wait to use the wind to my advantage. and I gotta say..I nailed it.
about Ivy Creek Nature area
Ivy creek Nature area more or less sits below the Blue Ridge Mountains, they’re off in the distance BUT there no the less.
This beautiful nature area is well maintained and sits in the heart of Charlottesville Virginia, perfect for those looking for a woodsy adventure vide without having to drive into the mountains. Within the 200+ acre property you have a wide range of different areas to explore; streams, open fields, and plenty of lush woods to wander around plus so much more. This area is completely free of charge to explore around!
Approaching this shoot I wanted to do something that was a tad out of my comfort zone and give this couple as few poses as possible. I wanted to see what they would do with slight direction and some prompts instead of posing. They crushed absolutely crushed it! The moody winter feel I was going for turned out being a COMPLETE success!
In the moment I can’t help but still feel grateful for the chance to capture the loves story between Maribel and Daniel, it’s new and exciting relationship!
